Two weeklong seminars were recently held in Edmonton, Alta. to give operators a unique opportunity to increase their skills using Soilmec hydraulic drill rigs. Soilmec certified instructors came from Italy's Foundations Technology Academy to teach the participants state-of-the-art drilling techniques and to help them grow professionally to reach their full potential. Having skilled operators helps the participating contractors get the most from their Soilmec equipment by increasing jobsite productivity, efficiency and safety. The special training was organized by a collaboration of the Foundation Technology Academy (part of the Trevi Group), Champion Equipment Sales, LLC and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #955. A total of 40 students participated from three Alberta-based foundation contractors: AGRA Foundations, Keller Canada and Pacer Foundations Corporation. The seminars were held at the union's facilities.

The seminars were held at the union’s facilities.

“Training is an essential element in the suite of services Soilmec provides its customers,” said Steve Wilson, Champion Equipment Sales, who helped organize and presented at the training. “Selling the equipment is the first step, but it’s also extremely important to make sure that the operators know how to run the machines properly. Skilled operators cause less wear and tear on the equipment, increase productivity and expand the available technologies.”

Each five-day program included classroom instruction and hands-on training on a drill rig, covering large diameter piling, conventional casing and segmental casing with and without an oscillator.

Successful participants received certification upon course completion, which helps their companies to comply with updated government mandates and safety regulations for heavy equipment operation.

“Contractors get the best value from their Soilmec rigs and equipment when their operators are properly trained,” said Wilson. “We’re proud to sponsor such an important program.”

Soilmec also offers customized onsite training to its customers. Expert instructors assess the operators’ existing skills and develop a weeklong personalized training program at the customer’s own construction site. You can see Soilmec training in action here.
