Welcome to the Q3 2020 issue of Piling Canada! I hope you, your teams
and families are in good health and were able to have an enjoyable
summer despite the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As we move into another cold and flu season, we as an industry
must remember the practices that have allowed us to keep projects moving.
That was part of the inspiration of this issue. We wanted to explore some of the
products and services that keep your projects going. Have you heard of Expander
Body International? This company is upfront in knowing that their product, the
Expander Body, is not right for every job, but it may be right for your job. Head over
to page 43 to learn more about this promising product.
Another promising product? Watson Drill Rigs’ new 7300 drill rig. This is the
first product released since owners Doug and David Watson bought back ownership
from Trevi Group of companies. Flip to page 18 to learn more about this
powerful rig and the decision to bring Watson Drill Rigs back to 100 per cent
family ownership.
Also, visit page 11 to learn about GeoVerra, a new Canadian geomatics company
that is ready to help. They launched in mid-June of this year – clearly not ideal conditions
for a new entrant – and are making their mark. Be sure to read this company
profile to see if their services could help on your next project.
I think industry has done a fantastic job pivoting to keep projects progressing
in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. To keep that momentum going, head over
to page 67 for a discussion on occupational health and safety compliance. Be sure
to consult with a health and safety expert or legal counsel to ensure regulations
are met.
We are getting closer to unveiling Piling Canada’s exciting 2021 news. Without
giving too much away, we have had to move our annual Great Canadian Projects to
Issue 2 2021, the submission deadline remains the same. Apologies for any confusion
this may cause. Guidelines and the entry form start on page 73. If you have any
questions regarding the Great Canadian Projects issue, please drop me a line.
As always, I hope you enjoy this issue of Piling Canada. We’re busy working on
the next issue, so please feel free to let me know what coverage your organization
needs as we continue to navigate this global pandemic; we’re here to support your
industry efforts. If you haven’t yet, don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn
and Twitter!
Take care and stay healthy,
Lindsay Risto
