At the beginning of summer, I was lucky enough to visit the subject of one
of my favourite Piling Canada project spotlights: the Glacier Skywalk in
Jasper National Park, Alta. We featured the construction of the Skywalk
on the cover of the Quarter 3 2014 issue of the magazine. I packed up my
car and drove from Winnipeg to Jasper. It was an incredible experience. I was able
to tell some fellow tourists about how the structure was anchored to the mountain
and how it was holding us up (which, of course, delighted them, I’m sure). While it
was a little scary to step out onto the glass platform at first (especially since it was
raining and the glass was covered in water), the view was unbelievable. You can’t
help but marvel at the design of the Skywalk – it’s an incredible feat of engineering.
I highly recommend making the trip, and be sure to brush up on the project’s
story before you go. You can find the digital edition of Quarter 3 2014 in the digital
archives on www.pilingcanada.ca.
When you’re able to drop yourself into a beautiful place like Jasper National
Park, it makes you think about how fantastic our world is. This is why, for the
Quarter 3 2015 issue of Piling Canada, we’re revisiting how we can build Canada
while preserving our environment. We once again visit Alberta in this issue – this
time, we’re showcasing a project in Banff National Park. Flip to page 49 to read
