Aecon joint venture awarded contract for Second
Narrows Water Supply Tunnel project
Aecon Group Inc. has announced that a joint venture between
Aecon (40 per cent) and Traylor Bros Inc. (60 per cent) has
been awarded a $267 million contract by Metro Vancouver
(Greater Vancouver Water District) for the Second Narrows
Water Supply Tunnel project in B.C.
The scope of work includes construction of two shafts,
one on each side of Burrard Inlet, connected by a 1,100-metre
tunnel. The north entry shaft will be in North Vancouver and
approximately 60 metres deep, while the south exit shaft will
be in Burnaby and approximately 110 metres deep.
Work began in November and the project is expected to
reach completion by the end of 2023.

complex, multi-year project for Metro Vancouver to ensure
the continued, reliable delivery of clean drinking water to
member jurisdictions,” said Jean-Louis Servranckx, president
and chief executive officer, Aecon Group Inc. “This award
further advances Aecon’s recognized reputation as a partnerof
choice for tunnelling projects, while expanding our solid
presence in Western Canada working on large-scale critical
infrastructure projects.”
Government of Canada launches data hub on the
economic impact of infrastructure investment
Well-planned infrastructure investment helps build strong
communities, creates jobs and opportunities for the middle
class, and supports a high standard of living for Canadians
and their families. Good data allows governments to maximize
the benefits of the infrastructure investments they are
making through informed decisions.
The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister
of Infrastructure and Communities, has welcomed the launch
of Infrastructure Statistics Hub, an interactive tool that allows
users to view data on the investment, stock and contribution
of infrastructure to the Canadian economy from the recently
launched Infrastructure Economic Account (INFEA).
INFEA was developed by Statistics Canada and launched
in September 2018 as part of a commitment made in
Budget 2017 to support a more evidence and results-based
approach to public infrastructure policies, programs and
investment decisions.
For the first time, data users will be able to understand
the data linkages between infrastructure investment, value
added, number of jobs and other variables for both the
