Seeing opportunities at Keewatinohk, MasTec Canada has
been able to expand the scope of its work there to create what
Horner calls “a huge job.” Thanks to the company’s extensive
complementary service offerings, it is now also providing
crane hoisting services for heavy loads, including prefabricated
buildings, steel structures and platforms, as well as
earthworks and concrete services provided by its concrete
division.
Focus on safety
With numerous safety-related awards, MasTec Canada has
a demonstrated commitment to health and safety. Its safety
program is designed to protect employees and contractors,
the public and the environment.
To ensure that it meets its safety responsibilities, the company
employs site-specific divisional safety officers, who
complete safety inspections every day. Its projects are subject
to a thorough field safety review every week.
Employees are actively engaged in ongoing safety education
and training, and must adhere to a zero-tolerance drug
and alcohol policy.
Looking forward
MasTec Canada’s background is largely in the oil and gas
industry, but the company is increasingly working in the
mining and hydro sectors, with plans to expand its business
in the wind and solar power industry. It is also looking to
enter the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market.

Looking ahead, Horner said, “We have merged and
rebranded in order to provide a greater capacity of work
services and a turn-key construction solution. We have also
secured a new piling yard and shop within the Nisku locale.
This will allow us to better serve and adapt to the piling
market.
“Our outlook is positive for 2017.”
