Hello and welcome to the Q2 issue of Piling Canada. I think it’s safe to say that
the Canadian deep foundations industry has been busy this past winter and
spring and is well positioned for another busy summer. Our team has been
busy putting together this issue that we hope will help make this construction
season the best yet!
To start things off, have you heard about the innovative urethane protector that
reduces the risk of sidewall punctures on off-the-road tires? With an installation time
of about 15 minutes, companies can save thousands on tire repair and replacement
for their heavy equipment. To learn more, flip to page 11.
We also met up with Dozr, a Kitchener, Ont.-based technology start-up that is
making huge strides in the North American construction industry as they strive to
make renting construction equipment easier. On page 21, find out how a simple
conversation around vacation property rentals morphed into a successful one-stopshop
for companies to both rent equipment and rent-out their own idle machines.
In the midst of an Ontario expansion, we caught up with Almita Piling to discuss its
acquisition of Ancora Metalworks in Guelph, Ont., which for the first time establishes
Almita’s full end-to-end service abilities in the province. They also shared their
future plans to establish operations in British Columbia’s lower mainland by next
year. Page 32 has the full story.
For the first time ever, Piling Canada attended the Deep Foundations Institute’s
(DFI) SuperPile ’19. This was a great event in Seattle, Wash., and I want to sincerely
thank our host, DFI, for having us. What a great opportunity it was to meet some of
you and learn what industry is facing as we continue into the future. To relive the
magic (or see what you missed), head over to page 52 for our event wrap-up. Be sure
the save the date for SuperPile ’20, June 3–5, 2020, in St. Louis, Mo.; the deadline to
submit abstracts is Sept. 27. See their website for more details, www.dfi.org.
It’s not too early to start thinking about submitting your projects for our next
“Great Canadian Projects” issue. Flip to page 63 for full details. We love seeing all of
the amazing work being done in Canada and abroad by great Canadian companies
and are thrilled to give you and your teams the recognition you deserve.
For our new readers, if you’d like to receive Piling Canada in the mail or join the
quarterly e-newsletter list, please don’t hesitate to contact me. If your company
works in Canada, we’d love to write about you and your projects in the magazine.
The process is easy and I’m happy to tell you more. Be sure to follow Piling Canada
on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, and view our digital edition archives at
www.PilingCanada.ca.
As always, I love hearing your feedback and comments, and am always open to
suggestions, so if you know of a story you want to see in here, drop me a line.
Have a great summer,
Lindsay Risto
