As 2016 comes to a close, I want to thank all of our readers and advertisers
for your well wishes and support as Piling Canada celebrated its 10-year
anniversary. At Lester, we work hard to publish this magazine for you each
quarter, and hearing and reading your words of appreciation means so
much to us. We’re looking forward to another 10 years!
When I was thinking what the theme of this issue should be, I received a timely
email from a contractor asking about what type of photos we require for a project
spotlight article, and he asked if he should hire a photographer to come to his site.
While of course, some contractors choose not to professionally photograph their
sites, I know several Canadian contractors who believe wholeheartedly in investing
in project photography. I decided that for an issue of Piling Canada, we should
explore some aspects of business development that may not be top-of-mind, but
have the potential to impact your company in a big way. Beautiful, high-resolution
photos certainly have that possibility (and they make for great magazine covers!).
In this issue’s feature section, you’ll read about how and why to invest in project
photography (or, at the very least, you’ll get some tips about how to take the best
photos of your project sites on your own), how to manage change in your organization
and why you should consider social media as a business tool. For our legal
column, Fillmore Riley LLP explains what you need to know about legally owning
your business name and branding.
An experienced photographer will know how to choose the focus of each photo, and
capture it in the best light
